Apply the Audio parameter behavior

The Audio parameter behavior generates audio-driven animations in your projects by linking changes in an audio track to any other object parameter, including parameters of filters, replicators, particle systems, lights, text, and even other behaviors. Available in the Parameter category of behaviors in the Library (and via the Add Behavior pop-up menu in the toolbar), the Audio parameter behavior lets you make a particle system pulse to the beat of a bass line, text jitter to the treble of a vocal track, or a light strobe to the rhythm of a funky guitar riff.

For a list of all parameter controls in this behavior, see Audio (parameter behavior).

Apply the Audio parameter behavior to an object parameter

  1. In the Layers list, Timeline, or Canvas, select an object.

  2. In the Properties Inspector, do one of the following:

    • Control-click a parameter name (Position or Rotation, for example), then choose Add Parameter Behavior > Audio from the shortcut menu.

    • Click the Animation menu (the downward arrow that appears when you move the pointer over the right side of a parameter row) for the parameter you want to animate, then choose Add Parameter Behavior > Audio.

The Audio parameter behavior is applied to the chosen parameter of the selected object, but no source audio is yet applied.

  3. In the Behaviors Inspector, click the To pop-up menu (in the Source Audio row), then choose a source audio track.

Play back the project to see how the Audio behavior affects the object.

  4. To increase the intensity of the effect, drag the Scale slider (in the Behaviors Inspector) to the right.

  5. Adjust the other parameters in the Behaviors Inspector as needed, particularly the Frequency parameters. For a complete list of parameter controls in this behavior, see Audio (parameter behavior).

Apply the Audio parameter behavior via the Add Behavior pop-up menu

  1. In the Layers list, Timeline, or Canvas, select an object.

  2. In the toolbar, click the Add Behavior pop-up menu, then choose Parameter > Audio.

Add Behavior pop-up menu in toolbar

The Audio parameter behavior is applied to the selected object. However, you still need to assign a parameter to be animated and apply source audio to drive the animation.

  3. To assign a parameter to animate, click the To pop-up menu in the Apply To row (at the bottom of the Behaviors Inspector), then choose a parameter.

  4. To apply source audio to drive the animated parameter, click the To pop-up menu in the Source Audio row (at the top of the Behaviors Inspector), then choose a source audio track.

Play back the project to see how the Audio behavior affects the object.

  5. To increase the intensity of the effect, drag the Scale slider (in the Behaviors Inspector) to the right.

  6. Adjust the other parameter controls in the Audio section of the Behaviors Inspector as needed, particularly the frequency sliders. For a complete list of parameter controls in this behavior, see Audio (parameter behavior).
