Stylize filters overview

Unlike distortion filters, which warp and deform an image, stylize filters simulate different media, such as film, television, or print, for example.

There are 25 Stylize filters:

  • Add Noise adds noise to an image.

  • Bad Film simulates old or damaged film or playback equipment.

  • Bad TV simulates poor analog television reception.

  • Circle Screen simulates an etched screening technique using a pattern of concentric circles.

  • Circles adds elliptical facets to an image, giving it a mosaic-like appearance.

  • Color Emboss gives the image the appearance of being stamped into the Canvas.

  • Crystallize simulates the effect of viewing an image through a pane of glass with irregular facets.

  • Edges creates an edge-detection effect.

  • Extrude gives an object simulated depth.

  • Halftone simulates the halftone screening method for print.

  • Hatched Screen simulates a halftone pen-and-ink method of shading an image.

  • Highpass stylizes the colors in an image to create a psychedelic display.

  • Indent creates a shiny, bump-mapped effect, giving the appearance of depressed and flat areas.

  • Line Art creates an effect similar to a line drawing on paper.

  • Line Screen simulates an etched screening technique using a pattern of straight lines.

  • MinMax erodes or dilates the light or dark areas of your image into soft, blocky regions.

  • Noise Dissolve dissolves an object by adding a pattern of noise to it.

  • Pixellate turns an image into a mosaic of blocks using colors taken from an object.

  • Posterize reduces the number of colors in an image.

  • Relief creates the appearance of a 3D height map.

  • Slit Scan creates an animated fly-through effect similar to “stargate” images in science fiction films.

  • Slit Tunnel creates an animated fly-through effect similar to “warp tunnel” images in science fiction films.

  • Texture Screen uses a source layer to create a screen on an image.

  • Vignette simulates the light fall-off and corner-blurring effect characteristic of images viewed through some camera lenses.

  • Wavy Screen simulates an etched screening technique using a pattern of zigzagging lines.
