Share to Apple devices

To export your project to an Apple device such as iPhone, iPad, or iPod, or to play your project on a home theater system using Apple TV, you must send the project to iTunes. You can use the default export settings or customize the settings to suit your needs.

Choose an Apple device format for sharing

  1. Choose Share > Apple Devices.

  2. In the Share window, click an Apple device shown at the top.

  3. Select “Add to iTunes” if you want the shared file added to your iTunes library.

  4. When the device you clicked appears at the center of the window, click Share.

The time it takes to export a project depends on the size of the movie and whether you render more than one movie size at once.

Customize an Apple device format for sharing

  1. Choose Share > Apple Devices.

  2. In the Share window, click an Apple device shown at the top.

The Share window displays the basic details about the file (size and device compatibility).

Note: Although the iPod option exports a file that’s compatible with all Apple devices, its resolution may not look good when you play it on an iPad or Apple TV.

  3. Select “Add to iTunes” if you want the shared file added to your iTunes library.

  4. To specify additional options, click Show Details, then click Options.

  5. In the Options pane, choose settings to fine-tune the rendered output:

    • Sizes: To export the file in multiple sizes, select additional devices in the Sizes area.

    • Encode for: Select “Higher quality” or “More compatibility.” Note the difference in file size and number of compatible devices listed.

    • Title: To change your project’s name in iTunes, enter a name in this field.

    • Add to playlist: To add your project to an iTunes playlist, choose a playlist.

    • Compression: Choose a render quality. “Faster encode (single pass)” sacrifices quality for faster processing.

    • Duration: If you set In and Out points in the Timeline, choose whether to export the entire sequence or the portion between the In and Out points.

  6. To specify additional Motion-specific options, click Render.

For more information, see Render settings.

  7. To see details about files to be output, click Summary.

  8. When you’re satisfied with the settings, click Share.

The time it takes to output the project depends on the size of the movie, the number of movies being rendered, and the Render settings you selected.

If you selected the Add to iTunes option, iTunes opens (if it wasn’t open), and the new output media appears within.
