About 3D text intersection and layer order

Use the following intersection and layer order guidelines when working with 3D text:

  • 3D text intersects only with other 3D text.

  • For 3D text layers in the same group to intersect, they must be contiguous in the Layers list (with no other layers separating the 3D text layers).

  • For 3D text layers in different groups to intersect, the 3D text layers must be contiguous in the Layers list (with no other layers in either group separating the 3D text layers). Additionally, the groups must be set to 3D. For more information about converting 2D groups to 3D groups, see Create 3D intersection.

  • 3D text uses only layer order: For 3D text to appear above other non-3D text layers, the 3D text must be positioned above the other layers in the Layers list.

3D text layer below the non-3D text layer in the Layers list; non-3D text layer appears in front of the 3D text layer in the Canvas.
3D text layer above the non-3D text layer in the Layers list; non-3D text layer appears in behind the 3D text layer in the Canvas.

For more information about layer order, see Create 3D intersection.

Certain operations, such as the application of some filters or selecting the Crop checkbox in the Properties Inspector, can cause a group containing 3D text to be rasterized. For more information, see Text and rasterization.
